Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea OST by Joe Hisaishi

I finally got hold of the latest Joe Hisaishi soundtrack, which is the Ponyo on the Cliff OST. I already reviewed the amazing theme song back in November 2008 (read my review here). I already had the Image Album which is quite good but only has 10 tracks...



10/10 The Ponyo OST is one of the best Ghibli Movies soundtracks Hisaishi has done lately. In my opinion it's even better than the Howl's Moving Castle OST or the Spirited Away OST, and those are already very good! I was expecting it to sound as joyful and more childish in a way like the Kiki or Totoro soundtracks, but overall it has a more mature sound (despite some fun and childish tracks). I'm a huge Hisaishi fan, he's the one after all that got me into anime music, so I was really thrilled to discover this brilliant work of his.

I really like the fact that the melody of the theme songs can be heard throughout a lot of tracks on the OST. It's a really amazing melody, and I love the arrangements he did for it (like in tracks 3, 5, 6, ♥12, 14, 22, 25, and ♥35). And I think it's also the first time I'm hearing such beautiful choirs in his music! My favorite tracks of the OST are No. 2 (featuring the amazing opera singer Hayashi Masako), No. 14 (brilliant orchestration), No. 20 (amazing choirs), No. 21 (beautiful violin solo), No. 29 (lovely song with strings), No. 30 (again the amazing choirs), No. 34 (choirs+beautiful violin solo=win!), No. 35 (beautiful piano version of the Ponyo theme song, but much too short...), No. 36 (the amazing Ponyo song that will stay in your head for days...)...

White Album ED Single - Maiochiru Yuki no You ni by Suara

The White Album ED theme song is called Maiochiru Yuki no You ni and it is sung by Suara. She already did the opening themes for the anime Utawarerumono and Asatte no Hoko.

6.5/10 Maiochiru Yuki no You is a sweet ballad. Suara definitely has a nice voice, but the ballad is a bit too bland for my taste. I'm not sure if it's because of those annoying bells or because of the lackluster chorus. I really like the way the song starts but then the chorus is kind of so-so for me. Not bad, but not brilliant either... Anyway, I like the piano parts throughout the song.

Bleach ED18 Full Song - Sky Chord by Tsuji Shion

The PV for the latest Bleach ED18 song just got released (thanx to Death the Kid for telling me). I reviewed Sky Chord by Tsuji Shion here. I would still give the song the same rating by the way... It's ok but doesn't have that special something. And it's also makes so laugh each time she sings Sky Chord, it sounds more like Sky God or Sky Good to me, HAHA!

My Piano Cover of the Xam'd Insert Song

My latest piano cover is the song I heard in the anime Xam'd: Lost Memories. I wrote a post two days ago about this awesome song here. I still haven't found any news on the Xam'd OST by Michiru Oshima by the way (sigh...). I hope you like my version of this wonderful and sad song... 6/10 Silky heart is a fun and upbeat song, though not as good as Vanilla Salt in my opinion. The chorus is still pretty catchy and the beats very poppy, but it does sound very cheesy, which is not necessarily a bad thing, mind you...

If you’re tired of tapping the left and right brackets to increase / decrease your brush size, try using the new Drag-resize brush cursor keyboard shortcut in Photoshop CS4 to make rapid changes to the brush size. Ctrl + Option (Mac) / alt + right click (win) -drag will increase/decrease brush size while displaying a red overlay of the density and feather of the brush for visual reference. Add the Cmd (Mac) /shift (Win) to change hardness. Note: the preview color can be controlled in Preferences / Cursors / Brush Preview).

Xam'd Lost Memories - Insert Song

Out of all the anime shows I'm currently watching, Xam'd is without a doubt the best one (with Michiko to Hatchin). It's a really beautiful and complex anime that feels like a mix between Eureka Seven and Mononoke Hime. It also features the best soundtrack out of all the shows I'm watching. The composer is none other than Michiru Oshima who did the beautiful soundtracks for shows like Fullmetal Alchemist and Le Chevalier d'Eon. Sadly, there are virtually no news on the Xam'd OST release. The show only has one episode left, so it should normally be out already. I've looked everywhere (including Japanese websites) and haven't found a thing. If you know anything about the Xam'd OST, please tell me...

The song that struck me the most in Xam'd, was the insert song that featured at the end of the first episode when Akiyuki transformed into the Xam'd for the first time. I also heard that song in episode 24 and I'm sure it featured in other episodes as well.

10/10 This insert song really moved me to tears. It has such a sad feel to it. The melody is nothing short of haunting and the orchestral accompaniment is beautifully mastered. The singer's voice, which sounds like a child's voice makes it even sadder and enhances the emotions of the song. I love this song so much, that I've already recorded a piano version of it... So stay tuned...

2/10 I should have called this post "Turd of the day", LOL! This song is the blandest teenie shit ever! I don't know what's worse: the uninspired melody, the atrocious techno beats, the pathetic synths or the very dull singing. I really don't understand these girls, they're singing as if they're bored out of their minds. Their voices have no energy whatsoever... They can at least try to pretend they're having fun. It kind of feels as if someone is holding a blade to their necks and forcing them to sing.

7.5/10 This is the second song I've heard from Mell and I'm really liking her songs! Too bad the long version isn't out yet. I can't wait to put my hands on that. Yuki Kajiura Concert DVD Live 2008.07.31. - The MCs

For all the Yuki Kajiura fans, I still have five more videos of the special live concert... But it's not what you're thinking. Sadly, it isn't more songs, but just the spoken parts of Yuki Kajiura during the concert between songs (MCs) that I had left out. Find out what Yuki Kajiura said during the concert...

After the introduction she said that during the vol. 1 DVD she decided she wants to do a vol. 2 as well. This happened 3 months later and she says its kinda early (considering the only live concerts she did before were FictionJunction Yuuka ones it damn sure is fast after vol. 1). She then says that she decided to do it so early, or better said on this date, because a lot of students have exams in August, it may be understood that some people are already really busy because of exams and that's why she says thank you to the audience that came, and then a big applause follows.
She noticed that a lot of people are wearing the Yuki Kajiura T-shirts and then starts talking about summer, being really hot, etc. After that she says that if she had to choose between hot or cold weather she'd choose cold, because she prefers winter over summer.
She then mentions vol. 2 again and then says something funny things about it.

MC2
She starts talking about titles. She asks the audience if anybody knows the title of the hall/event/etc... Apparently nobody does, better said she doesn't wait to see if anyone does know. She continues saying that in other words she doesn't need to know the title so she looks on the billboard to see which one it is again and she's all: oh yeah.. i got it now! (the song title)
She gets onto introducing the singers and she says what she likes about each of their voices and some embarrassing things about them as well.

-WAKANA
She refers to her as a goddess (megami), she really likes her voice and she says she likes that WAKANA can vary her voice a lot (aka goes quickly from low to high pitches).
And off to sharks. Apparently she really likes them. When they were at studio she talked about sharks for about half an hour, she talked about how great they are and are the best animal on the world, while everybody was just listening and humming.
At that point she asks WAKANA if she bullied her a bit too much and apologizes, and of course WAKANA says shes fine.

-Yuriko Kaida
She says she used her for lots of OST songs and actually she didn't even noticed for how many songs she has used her. She says she likes the that Keida can sing nice high tones.
She then talks about her brother...
And apparently it seems that when Kaida was coming to the hall she made a mistake and went to the next door house. While there, she got a bento and dessert and ate. Kaida is then so embarrassed that she concludes the introduction.
Kajiura still continues for a while though saying that she finds Kaida's voice like one of an angel (and something about Kaida being one of a kind in the world).

-KEIKO
Kajiura says that KEIKO-chan's voice is a bit different and that there is a big gap/difference between her spoken and singing voice. She then mimics KEIKO...
She also says that KEIKO likes tennis, and then the two start talking about tennis, and KEIKO sats she got 4th place in a tennis competition.

-KAORI
She says that KAORI is really good at singing, and that she sings like a pro. KAORI studied music a lot by herself and she likes to improvise in the songs. Kajiura really praises KAORI a lot here and KAORI says that its actually scary to be praised so much.
A few days before this LIVE it was KAORI's birth day, she's now 20 years old.

MC3 (exclusively with Eri Ito):
So obviously they start talking about Tsubasa Chronicle.
They thank each other a lot. You are my love was the first song they recorded together and Eri says that when she first heard it she thought it was really beautiful. Kajiura blushes and starts laughing. The meeting between the two was a coincidence but Kajiura was really happy to find such a beautiful voice so she really wanted her to sing the songs. They go on to talk about Eri's album here. Eri says that no matter what she wanted Kajiura to make at least one song for her album even though she knew that Kajiura is really busy. Kajiura says its published under her name, and Eri continues its under hiragana Eri since lots of people are confused or misread her name in kanji, so she changed it to hiragana. And a few more words about the album, and the funny contradiction between albums title and the song Kajiura made for Eri (aka Lonely with you and Loving you).
Kajiura: So next song ....
Eri: Kajiurago desu ne (Kajiurago, right)
Kajiura: Hai, sou desu ne (Yes, thats right)

MC4 (introduction of band members)
She says they are not back band members but only front band members.

-Kajiura says that "today" he has an aura of a prince
-they know each other since for a very long time

-she goes back on his playing saying its like touch-and-go
Guitar Korenaga, Koichi
-he's a funny man
-seems like the singers are crazy about him
Violin: Konno, Hitoshi
-eroi violin player :3
-during the rehearsal when practicing The World KEIKO borrowed his violin and played The World (well at least some lines) and they wanted her to repeat that, but it failed, so Hitoshi mimicked her. Kajiura said if they had to perform the song at her tempo it would take them 30 minutes to finish the song.

T-shirts this, T-shirts that. Apparently they got sold out so she said she'll make sure they'll make them more for next time.
Lots of talk about yume no tsubasa. She wanted to have a song for the encore where everybody could sing a long and have fun, so that's why she chose yume no tsubasa since it a low pitched song.
