    Creature Concept design step by step paint over line art. Here we go again, I am digging out some of the sketches that I did and try to give it a better version or finish it up.

    This time, it's some sort of giant dragon type of creatures. It doesn't really look like a typical dragon, just a variation of its kind. We do that a lot when we try to concept creatures and see what kind of stuff we can come up with that look different, but not totally far off.

    It was totally fun because I haven't really done any creature in long while.

    It's still a work in process and hopefully I will finish it up in a couple more sitting or approximately 3 hours of thinking and couple hours of painting. :)

Store Site Server Maintanence Part II

    Another FYI to you guys, on July 29th to early morning July 30th from 12 midnight to around 4 am (EST), we will be conducting our second round of system upgrades to increase capacity and help improve store site performance (and pave the way for a few other things coming this fall...).

    As before, this maintenance period will be transparent to you, so you will still be able to use the store as normal, however, you may not be able to use coupons or gift certificates when placing an order during this time (as that database may go offline for a short time).

    We won't be publishing out any new item pages or other changes we've recently made to the site until this is completed, so all the new October releases from ADV, Funi, and Media Blasters that we've recently built will appear on the site sometime during the early morning hours of July 30th.

    I know many of you are waiting to see Clannad After Story or Blassreiter or the Naruto Shippuden Movie available for pre-order, and they will be up and available a few hours from now. :-)

    It's been 3 years since the last installment of GuildWars. The Guild Wars team at ArenaNet and I (Mostly them new blood and old blood) have been working really hard to put out one of the BEST MMO ever made!

How to draw comics character HULK

    Learn How to draw Comics character The Hulk

    Here is another attempt of drawing Hulk. I was having too much fun playing around with drawing and studying muscle groups.

    This post contains two videos. :) First video demostrates how to draw and sketch a SuperHero Character Hulk from side view. The video demo shows you a bit of side view male anatomy (arm muscle groups) and dynamics in the positioning of the figure and the details.
    Second video is about applying color and paint over. It shows you how digitally color and paint over Hulk drawing. This drawing video demo shows you a bit of essential foundation of digital painting such as values and color on the HULK.

    A bit about Hulk, he was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the character first appeared in The Incredible Hulk #1 (May 1962). The Hulk is cast as the emotional and impulsive alter ego of the withdrawn and reserved physicist Dr. Bruce Banner. The Hulk appears shortly after Banner is accidentally exposed to the blast of a test detonation of a gamma bomb he invented. Subsequently, Banner will involuntarily transform into the Hulk, depicted as a giant, raging, humanoid monster, leading to extreme complications in Banner's life. Lee said the Hulk's creation was inspired by a combination of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Frankenstein.

    I thought I finished the "Agent Pink" (Anime girl) since the last post, but I could not help looking back at the piece I did prior to this "Rogue Sword" aka Samurai girl here Digital painting process character. Then I thought how would I make it at least up to the par or could it possibly be better in term of artistic execution.
    So I had to repaint the "Agent Pink" and it take me a while to figure out how to turn this one in to something that is NOT realistic looking but a good looking piece.
    So I start playing around and give it under lighting or bounce light, changing the background color, then everything sort of comes together in the end. Then I really like how the bounce light I painted turn out, especially on her green form fitting suit. Then I struggle with the face so I thought I changed her expression and it works! It takes a lot of experimenting, thinking and time. You can go watch video and step by step process draw and color Anime girl step by step on the previous post.

    Hope you guys also like the latest version of "Agent Pink" (Well, I thought I would just give it a new name)

    Bounce light by definition
    Light bounced into a reflective surface (a wall, a ceiling, a studio umbrella, a card) to illuminate a subject with softer light, reducing harsh shadows. The color of the reflective surface will determine the color of the light bounced into the subject.
    Bounce lighting can also be created by reflecting light off a ceiling or an reflective floor. Given that bounce lighting can only work through reflection, it also, by definition, tends to be used in more confined, smaller areas where such reflection is possible. Larger areas can’t trap light as well and, therefore, are not the best spaces for it to be utilized.

    Bounce lighting is a form of ambient light because, like ambient light, bounce light indirectly illuminates the central object. Not only does it create a more natural feel to a scene, but it also lends a degree of warmth and serenity to the picture.

Kannagi Now Available to RACS Customers

    We now have Kannagi available to RACS customers. We have purchased a large qnty at retail and will be passing them through to you at cost.

    Our official company position on the matter is as follows:

    "Regretfully Bandai Entertainment has decided not to make the first issue of Kannagi available for general release. They have instead chosen to make this an exclusive sales item at one US retailer and therefore deny Anime fans a choice of where they can purchase this title. We dispute this policy, and have brought in a number of copies of Kannagi at retail, and are passing them through to you at our cost in order that customers who wish to purchase their Anime from RACS are not denied the opportunity to view this excellent title until next year when Bandai will allow all retailers to carry the general release version at a higher price."


    And so it goes...

    UPDATE: Vol #1 is now in stock.

    UPDATE: I have temporarily removed (but not deleted) my original post about Bandai's handling of the Kannagi release in favor of the official statement above. We are currently in a dialog with Bandai regarding this and other issues and have a few things to iron out before we decide how we're going to proceed. I hope they will show us a favorable outcome, but it's up to Bandai as to if that post will come back, and in what form it will take.

Otokon 2009 Announcements

    The big show in Baltimore is over, and it was great! Attendance numbers are coming in at over 26,000, and I sure believe it. Here's a quick roundup of industry announcements.

    Hint hint, it's almost all Funimation:

    Funimation announced that it has licensed four of the Detective Conan films. The films are: Detective Conan: The Last Magician of the Century, Detective Conan: Captured In Her Eyes, Detective Conan: Count Down to Heaven, and Detective Conan: The Phantom of Baker Street. All four films are based on the main character from Gosho Aoyama's Detective Conan manga - a prodigy detective trapped in a seven-year-old's body. Funimation will begin releasing the movies individually this winter.

    Funimation also announced at its panel on Saturday that it has licensed the new Casshern Sins and Eden of The East series. Casshern is the new 2008-2009 version of the series which just ended it's Japanese TV run in March. The story follows a cyborg who rises against the robotic armies that have subjugated all of humanity. Eden of The East is the latest series from Production I.G,and just ended it's Japanese run last month with the announcement of two theatrical films. Funi will release both the Casshern Sins and Eden of The East television anime series sometime in 2010.

    Later at the show Funi said they had acquired the rights to the original Dragon Ball Z masters for the show and the films, and will be re-releasing them all in a complete collection, broken into an appropriate seven parts starting this fall. The collection will have the show back in its original 4:3 aspect ratio, as opposed to Funi's previous cut-off widescreen releases, along with Japanese and English tracks, a set of features, and a collector's booklet. Each set will go for approx $80 MSRP, meaning the entirety of Dragon Ball Z on DVD will be $560 MSRP. We'll have it for much less that that, of course, probably under $400. :-) They also announced the English cast for Nabari No Ou and Spice & Wolf. I'll have that list up on the blog later this week as soon as I get some time.

    At the AniPlex booth they were saying that Sony will be releasing the second half of Blood+ this October to coincide with the DVD release of the live action Blood movie. Now that's music to my ears, though I'll be happier when we hear it directly from Sony.

    At Bandai's panel they discussed their dumb new marketing strategy, but had no new license announcements or much else to talk about.

    Finally, lots of Otakon 09 Cosplay action can be found here. Of course, way too many people were cosplaying Team Fortress 2

She is the dancing maid who has garnered a lot of attention on Nico (a video sharing service in Japan) for her lively dance performances including Ranka’s Seikan Hikou and multiple Haruhi-related songs. She now has a new video to the tune of the Hatsune Miku original song, and it's really almost too cute to watch:

Figure study female form step by step process

    Figure study female form step by step process.

    It's been a while since I did painting study of female figure. So I decided to do one or maybe a few quick figure painting study of a female body form. It was kind of rusty to begin with, struggle in the middle since it's been a long while. But after a couple hours in, it seems a bit easier but the result comes very close to what I want. I just want to study simple form of painting, not really going for the all the way realistic approach.
    Note to take on this one is that, I should have established more edges to get the image looks really painterly and smooth.
    I should try again soon.
    I start off with drawing or sketch to constructed the shape and form where I will be painting over. I am looking for the post that are interesting enough to look at rather than static. Then I use soft edge round brush to establish values then skin-tone for the figure. As it progress, the softer look become more define using hard edge round brush. I hardly use any custom brush on this one, it's just a study to sharpen my skill on figure painting.

    For beginner, you might want to look at the How to draw female body torso step by step (This one explain how to construct a body in the simple way for anyone to understand and how to draw woman figure hip pelvis (easy way to construct body and the hip which is very crucial in conveying feminine figure). Also gestures figures video tutorial and learn how to draw woman sheet.

New Subtitled Haruhi Available the Weekend Only

    The Kadokawa Anime Channel on the YouTube streaming website has officially posted episodes 9-12 of the "renewed" airing of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya television anime series with English subtitles. The 12th episode, which is the first episode in the "Endless Eight" story arc, is the second new Haruhi episode that Kyoto Animation produced since the anime's original 2006 run.


    The four subtitled episodes will be available until July 12 (July 13 at 12:59 p.m. Japan Standard Time).

    Admit it guys, one of the top reasons you go to cons is to see cute cos-play girls often dressed up in, well you know, as little as possible. I've been searching AX09 cos-play photo archives for the past few days for some of the best pics, and while YOU might be looking for images of that delectable Yoko or Misa Misa, this is my kinda gal right here:


    Now don't even think of trying to steal her away by walking up to her and telling her how many Anime DVD's or Manga volumes you have to offer - she's heard it all before. Besides -and I'm sorry guys - but I have them all... -_^

    I know it's been almost a week since I update any drawing or painting...been busy with the Manga comics. And of course work at ArenaNet :)
    Now, this tutorial turns out nicely. One of my better ones. It doesn't take long and turn out the way I want. Surprisingly that doesn't really happen a lot because we all want to push it even further as an artist. The more we paint and draw the more experience, we tend to see more mistake and how it should have been better. Anyway, here is a painting of a court lady...part of a small project I am working on.

Mecha Mega Robot update almost done!

    Here is the 4th of the Mecha MEGA Robot visual character concept art process UPDATE (there are previously posted of part 1: Mecha Robot step by step drawing, part2 Painting Mech process tutorial and part 3 Giant Robot drawing and painting process). I try as much as I can to finish it up this weekend but unfortunately...I can only find a few hours to play with it. I amped up the Machine gun, changed and tweak the design a little bit on the bottome half. It's been a really fun session creating mech since I haven't really done a full launched Mecha in a long while. A few more painted session then I think I will call it done.

    ART tips: Talent is often overrated, and often deceive you. Whether you have it or not, forget that it's there. Practice, practice, and practice is only one sure way I know will make me the better artist.

    Then I changed the rocket launchers to twin vents.... so it fits. :)
