It's the final day of Baseball's Winter Meetings and that means the Rule 5 draft. I can feel the anticipation in the media room right now.
Unless the Rangers move someone off their 40-man roster before 11 a.m. Dallas time, they can't participate in the Major League portion of the draft. Then they'll sit back and hope that no one takes any one of their eligible players.
A couple of names to watch: Pedro Strop and Ben Harrison. Strop was signed this off-season and has a fracture at the tip of his right elbow that sidelined him for most of 2008. He's 23 and has some potential. If a team picks Strop up, they would have to keep him on the active roster for 90 days (not on the disabled list) to then be able to send him to the minors. If not, they risk making him Rule 5 eligible again next year. Here's more on Strop from Mike Hindman from last month.
The athletic outfielder Harrison is 27. He batted .300 with 17 homers and 66 RBIs in 91 games for Double-A Frisco last season. He hit .221 in 26 games with Triple-A Oklahoma.
We'll let you know what happens.
