Creature Concept design step by step paint over line art. Here we go again, I am digging out some of the sketches that I did and try to give it a better version or finish it up.

This time, it's some sort of giant dragon type of creatures. It doesn't really look like a typical dragon, just a variation of its kind. We do that a lot when we try to concept creatures and see what kind of stuff we can come up with that look different, but not totally far off.

It was totally fun because I haven't really done any creature in long while.

It's still a work in process and hopefully I will finish it up in a couple more sitting or approximately 3 hours of thinking and couple hours of painting. :)

Here is a final version of color concept Green dragon. Yeah, if any of you guys remember I had the sketch over a year ago along with the video tutorial of how to draw this guy. You can go watch it here creature concept design step by step (I embedded the drawing video along with the last post). And I think during that time I made a few more video about drawing creature...there are how to draw and sketch dragon head, this is one of my favorite design I did. Ah... How to draw creature monster creature (this one has a unique head, sort of like a lion in the way). Both How to draw dragon creature and learn how to draw and sketch dragon are the ones that look the most typical style dragon we see.

Here is the almost final part, part 5
Well it's actually done, but I will probably go back and do some revision if I see fits.

17) Now I am refining the front legs and the other wing using its local color and values.


18) Paint over the rider, give her some knight like beef up armor.


19) Then I am trying to bring out the Dragon's body a little bit more using value.


20) Then I paint the background, cliffs, rock and magma fall with lava flowing all around.


21) Add some magma crack on to the dragon's head. I thought it would be appropriate since it's a fire dragon. I might come back to touch it up in a few days with fresh eyes...it might be something good going on here.


This is the fin post, but I might continue it for the final revision.

How to paint Fire Dragon: Blaze step by step process. Online shot lesson about digital painting using Photoshop. From doodle sketch to finished creature monster concept, Fire Dragon, painting for artists who are interested in doing digital art for comics cartoon illustration, manga, anime and video games.

Here is part 4, I am almost done with it as a color concept creature design. Hopefully you guys will still have long attention span and not yet loose interested. Once in a while, I am really trying to do some finish concept rather than just color sketch. It takes some times, but 20-30 minutes per evening add up. So far I probably put in about three to four hours on this critter already. Enjoy! :)

12) Now, I rearrange the values on the knight riding on the dragon. Then repaint the foreground wing.


13) Finishing up one of the wing, and I add more detail on the head and face.


14) Using newly create texture brushes to texture the face, very subtle change in values itself.


15) Now I check overall value and add some kind of spear or lance to the rider.


16) Then I put some kind of chest plates for the dragon itself, it is still pretty simple design.

Fire Dragon: Blaze

Here are part III still going and going:

9) Now I am adding more design (Notice a pair of new huge fangs coming from the side from underneath?) to the Dragon head, trying to make him more menacing.


10) Re-adjust and arrange some values around the Dragon's head, adding some settle highlight and shadow. *Again, I am trying maintain the overall local value that is already there.


11) Add some stripes and create more textures on its skin and spikes. As for the head, it almost finish!

Manga Tutorial, How to draw and color dragon, Fire Blaze. Fire Dragon Concept design digital illustration step by step drawing and painting or coloring process display from basic sketching to finish drawing quick concept for comics cartoon illustration, manga, anime.

Here are part II of digital art tutorial Fire Dragon Concept design illustration process.

6) Assign color, in this case I pick blue and yellowish orange (complimentary scheme).


7) Then I begin to flesh out and render the head, focusing on big shapes and define values.


8) After I get all the big shape within the head, then I go in and refine secondary shape.
*TIP: Keep the value within the existing range of the area when paint, all I am trying to do is to make the existing values more readable. I am not really painting or introducing any more than 10% of new values within the area. Don't over paint it!

5) Clean up the values and tide the overall image together more.
