This is one of the best top quality (story/detail oriented art)shows out there. Nothing can really compete with its intricate detail of blood and emotional disposition. Everything that happens in this anime, happens for specific reasons. Hidden truths behind every 'mask' everything so vague for awhile.

Unlike other stories of insanely powerful warriors like in Lone Wolf and Cub or Trigun, Guts doesn’t have much of a conscience. He’ll insult others and put them at risk in order to fulfill his own objectives, whatever they may be (like he has to explain himself?). The truth might turn out to be something typically noble and sappy, he’s quite unique.

Berserk's setting is inspired by medieval Europe. It centers around the life of Guts, an orphaned mercenary warrior, and Griffith, the leader of a mercenary band called the Band of the Hawk (鷹の団, Taka no Dan?). As he ages, Guts changes from a solitary boy into a man who realizes the value of camaraderie. The story contains elements of both fantasy and horror, as it explores both the best and worst of human nature. Both the manga and anime are noted for their heavy violence.
